On Sunday, April 26th, we will hike on a loop beginning at North Piha Road, ascending quite steeply to the recently reopened Kuataika track, reaching as far as the Anawhata stream. We will then follow this stream down to Anawhata beach, along the way you will encounter the remnants of an old Kauri dam. The stunning Anawhata beach is one of the more tranquil beaches along Auckland's west coast making it particularly attractive for those seeking to escape the crowds. Subsequently, we will continue along the coast, passing Keyhole rock and beneath the geologically impressive volcanic rock formations. Finally, we will return to our starting point at North Piha. Arguably this would be one of the top few hikes in the Auckland region.

Be prepared to get your feet wet, especially in the Anawhata stream. In one section, it may be necessary at one point to wade through water that is nearly a metre in depth, however there will be no swimming on this hike, unless you want to. As with all coastal hikes on Auckland's west coast, you are likely to discover yet another of our region's treasures, featuring a diverse array of terrain and vegetation. If you like adventure then this is the hike for you! Our hike is expected to take approximately 5 to 5.5 hours, including breaks.
If there is rain forecast, then it will be cancelled, for everyone's safety and enjoyment.

Unfit or slow people may struggle in some parts. New members are welcome. Remember if you can not attend, to avoid a "No Show" next to your name, then change your status. If you have 3 or more "No Shows" then you will be changed to "Not going". It is always courteous to change your RSVP status, if you no longer can attend. Thank you👍
