Greetings Everyone - On Saturday we are going to visit the parks out east. The hike will be on a mixture of trails, roads and paved walkways. This is a relatively easy hike that will be hiked at a medium pace - first timers are welcome.

Duration: About 5 hours hike including stops.
Distance: 14-16 km.
Elevation gain: less than 200m
Difficulty: 2 on our 1-5 scale for day hikes.
Speed: medium

● Cost: - $10 for car poolers

● Preparation is the key to having a good day:

  • Check the weather - do you have the correct clothing and shoes?.
  • Do you know where the meeting places are?
  • Prepare everything you need to bring.

● Meeting Places and maps:
Our meeting place for car pooling has now been moved from New World Victoria Park to the Superette, on 110 Wellington Street, Freemans Bay. Please DO NOT park in front of the Superette, especially if you want to leave your car there for the duration of the event.

● Carpooling:

  • Carpooling will be arranged for everyone meeting at 110 Wellington Street, Freemans Bay.

Time Guideline:
09:00 - Good time to arrive 110 Wellington Street, Freemans Bay
09:15 - Car pooling arranged
10.00 - Arrive at Whenua Road
10.15 - Instructions and start hike
15:00 - Finish hike
15:15- After hike drinks and nibbles at Pavillion

● Bring:

  • Day pack
  • Lunch and drink, (1-3L Water)
  • clothing suitable for Winter
  • sun and emergency rain protection
  • first-aid items.

● Other Information:

  • To help avoid dirtying someone else's car (if you are a carpool passenger; please bring a plastic bag and extra footwear for after the hike).
