Econfina Creek Nature Trail wildflower hike
Details
Join us for a 2.3 mile wildflower hike along the Econfina Creek Nature Trail. Hikers should have water, hats, sunscreen, and sturdy shoes. We will have stops along the way to take pictures of the many wildflowers that are blooming. Hiking poles may come in handy due to the gentle slopes of the terrain. If you plan to swim, bring a towel and bathing suit . We will meet in the parking area next to the restroom.
Beginning at the parking lot for Pitt Spring, we will follow the boardwalk and trail for .2 miles, where we will stop for a scenic view of Sylvan Springs. From there, a gentle sloping hill will carry us up to an intersection where you turn right and make a gentle descent towards Williford Springs basin. Along the way native plants can be seen, along with Karst features. There is also poison oak growing along the wooden fence and trail so be careful what you touch. Long pants are recommended. At 1.1 miles we will reach Williford Spring where we will take a break. From there we will continue the loo, and head back to Pitt Springs. Once there we can cool off in the spring. Bring a packed lunch or snack to enjoy before you head back home.
When looking for wildflowers, expect to see red buckeye, coral bean, milkweed, false indigo, golden rod, ragweed and many more.
