Best is Yet to Come Series - Hike #3 - Pinelog

Continuing our hike of the Panhandle region of the FNST through the eyes of a thru-hiker, we are attempting to cover our entire region, including the road sections on this series, culminating with an all day New Year's Hike on the Upper Econfina section. We will meet at Cowford Landing on Hwy 20 at 8:00 am, then carpool to the Hwy 20 access on the East side of Pine Log State Forest. Our hike begins on a forest road and continues through dense titi swamp. We will cross a section of the Old Military Road (the first road built in Florida, connecting St. Augustine to Pensacola), passing through cypress swamps, under SR 79 to the Dutch & Faye Tiemann Trail, continue through Pinelog to Hwy 20 on the West side, then alongside the hwy for a short distance to Cowford Landing for a total of about 9.5 mi. Please wear sturdy shoes, sunscreen, bug spray, hat, sunglasses, bring plenty of water, electrolytes, snacks and lunch. Please also hydrate & nourish BEFORE the hike. We may see some pitcher plants and other cool wildlife. Hopefully not snakes, but you know they are out there! No pets allowed for this series. The adventure continues, and the best is yet to come!!
