Local McDowell Nature Preserve Hike

Details

Saturday morning promises to be partly sunny and lower to mid-80s so let’s get outdoors to one of our nicest nature preserves. This hike is mostly shaded.

We’ll do a loop beginning through the woods, take a short break at the Waterfront Deck on Lake Wylie, then continue on scenic switchbacks skirting the lake. Then we take in a trail on pavement along a creek, and continue in a canopy of wooded trails as we head back to the Nature Center.

This will be a 3.5 mile steadily paced hike, with mostly natural trails, and little to no elevation change. Although rated easy, you will need to negotiate many tree roots and might want to bring hiking poles.

With attending this hike you agree to participate at your own risk and Charlotte Piedmont Hiking Club and its leaders will not be liable for any injuries or mishaps.

There are restrooms at the Nature Center and about a quarter of the way into the hike.

Bring water and wear good hiking or walking shoes. Dogs on 6-foot leash welcome!

After turning into the park, look for the small Nature Center sign on the right and make a sharp right into the parking lot. If you get to the lake you’ve gone too far.
