Pharr Yarns Family Trail with McAdenville Lights option
Details
Sunday 12/21 promises to be partly sunny and low to mid 60s. Great for a hike, and to see the McAdenville Christmas Lights.
The Pharr Yarns Family Trail along the South Fork River is an easy mostly natural surface wooded trail that is 2.2 miles long. It is a total of 4.4 miles round trip. There are beautiful views of the river and amazing history going back to the Civil and Revolutionary wars, which I will share.
There is a short paved connector trail from the parking lot leading into McAdenville making this easiest way to see ‘Christmas Town USA’! You can go home or join us for the early evening walk starting around 5:15 to 5:30pm. The rest of the walk is on sidewalks. This adds about 1.5 more miles, and we should be back at our cars by 7 or 7:15pm.
Please do NOT bring your dogs if you wish to see the lights, as McAdenville will probably be extremely crowded. Although a small town, the bigger the group, the bigger the possibility of getting separated. I will have a map of the easy McAdenville route we will take. I suggest you take a picture of it so you have it on your cell. (I also suggest, as a backup, that you have your cell fully charged as you can use the GPS on it to get back to your car.)
Bring water and a snack. Wear comfortable walking and/or hiking shoes. Dress in layers for when the temps drop after sunset. Bring a small flashlight to use on the connector trail (save your cell battery for the lights!)
No restrooms during the hike, so take care of business before arriving. When we enter McAdenville our first stop will be to find public restrooms.
With attending this event you agree to participate at your own risk and Charlotte Piedmont Hiking Club and its leaders will NOT be liable for any injuries or mishaps, including getting separated in McAdenville.
