Hike Dryden Tract

We will be going on a different trail this time at the Dryden Tract and this hike will be 1 Hour. We will be keeping to the trails inside this Conservation area. This hike goes rain or shine...just not thundershowers!

Dryden Tract — Also known as Alps Woods, it’s hard to believe this beautiful patch of forest exists in Waterloo Region. With soaring, centuries-old maple and oak trees and a uniquely hilly terrain, you’d almost expect the Ewoks to come flying down from the canopy of this protected woodland. Smooth, well-groomed trails take you through a maze of bumpy eskers and moraines left behind by the glaciers, and connect to the Grand Valley Trail. All this once belonged to Andrew Dryden, a Scottish immigrant who purchased 900 acres outside of Ayr back in 1834. Today, it’s managed by the Grand River Conservation Authority, and this little-known forest, accessed off Alps Road east of Dumfries Road, is about as special as forests can get around here.
