Bokkraal Trails [20km] - Weekend Base Camp Hikes [Lichtenburg, NW]

Bokkraal Waterfall Valley is surrounded by the African bushveld, welcoming all guests with its nature rich atmosphere. Set in the Marico area of the North West Province, near Lichtenburg, this beautiful new trail offers a relaxing weekend in close proximity to the Groot Marico River.

The trails are centered on the river with its beautiful shady forest, cascades and pools. If you are a hiker who enjoys swimming in natural rock pools and the invigorating feel of the cascades of water as they sweep over you, then you will enjoy these trails.

Pets are allowed by prior arrangement.

HIKING IS OPTIONAL. YOU CAN JOIN US FOR A GET AWAY TO RELAX AND UNWIND.

COSTS (R805 Prepaid):

An immediate R350 deposit gains you a spot. This must be paid within 48 hours of your RSVP.

If you RSVP after 29 February 2024, the full payment of R805 is required within 48 hours of your RSVP.

A REFUND, less the admin fee, will be provided ONLY if a replacement person is enrolled. NO REFUND within 7 days of the event.

Depart for home after the hike.

ACCOMMODATION (MAX 17 PEOPLE):
THE BREMER HOUSE:
Sleeps 10 persons. It has 3 bed rooms, with 1 en suite. A second bathroom with a bath and a shower. Fully equipped – bring your own towels. 1 x Double Bed, 6 x ¾ beds, 2 x single beds. There is a spacious lounge and dining area. Braai facilities. Veranda with lovely views over the valley.

WOODEN CHALETS:
Perched on a high bank overlooking the river and lush forest which conceals the stunning Tufa waterfall. A covered Lapa is built next to the river with a viewing platform that looks down on the waterfall. Each chalet accommodates 5 adults – 1 x double bed, 2 x ¾ beds, 1 x sleeper coach. Chalets are fully equipped – bring your own towels. Braai facilities.

THE ROCK CHALET (Please enquire):
This is a beautiful, fully equipped, very private chalet for 2 persons only. No electricity, all appliances (stove, fridge) run on gas and solar lighting, no electrical plug points. Ideal for a couples with pets.

• Kitchens with Fridge, Microwave, Stove, cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils.

• Lapa
• Boma with braai area

MEALS:

All meals are self-catered. There will be fires for communal braais on Friday and Saturday evenings.

All meals, hiking snacks and any other beverages and snacks are for your own account

Distance - 200km from Chilli Lane Shopping Centre, Sunninghill
Time - Approx 2.5 hours

CARPOOLING (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED):

Carpooling is NOT facilitated by the Organiser. You organise your own carpool, whether you offer rides or are looking for a ride.

Calculate the vehicle running cost. Multiply the total return distance by the running cost (NOT TOTAL COST), add tolls and divide by number of people in the vehicle to get the individual cost. Distance is calculated from the first pick-up point.

FITNESS:
YOU AND YOUR GUESTS are required to have an intermediate level of fitness for most of the hikes (3.5km/hr or 18min/km over moderate terrain)

YOU AND YOUR GUESTS participating in Weekend Nature & Hiking Getaways activities do so AT THEIR OWN RISK.

The Organisers and Hosts are indemnified from any loss, injury or any incident that prejudices Members and their guests.

Members and their guests must ensure that they have the required hiking gear to comfortably participate in the event.
