Meiringskloof is located in a beautiful kloof surrounded by sandstone cliffs with open caves, thick indigenous bush and abundant bird life.
Accommodation is provided in self-catering sandstone chalets and caravan / camping facilities. Meiringskloof offers excellent hikes in beautiful surroundings and a swimming pool to cool down in. Horse riding and abseiling are available as options.
To preserve the natural surroundings only a limited number of chalets and caravan/camping sites have been developed.
HIKING IS OPTIONAL. YOU CAN JOIN US FOR A GET AWAY TO RELAX AND UNWIND.
COSTS (R580/R895 Prepaid):
An immediate R350 deposit gains you a spot. This must be paid within 48 hours of your RSVP.
If you RSVP after 31 July 2024, the full payment of R580/R895 is required within 48 hours of your RSVP.

Camping: R275 per person for the weekend.
Rooikat Chalet: R590 per person for the weekend. Max 9 people
Admin fee: R275 per person
Miscellaneous: R30 per person for firewood, charcoal, etc.
TOTAL COMPULSORY COST:
Camping: R275+275+30 = R580pp
Rooikat Chalet: R590+275+30 = R895pp
A REFUND, less the admin fee, will be provided ONLY if a replacement person is enrolled. NO REFUND within 7 days of the event.
HIKES:
Day One: 10km, Cliffhanger Trail, moderate
Day Two: 10km, Camelroc Trail, moderate (offsite, +R50) or explore various short trails onsite

Depart for home after the hike.
ACCOMMODATION:
CAMPING:
All camp sites have a braai area, electrical point and access to delicious, fresh tapped fountain water. Some sites have more shade, others more grass. All have beautiful views of the surrounding cliffs.
The camp sites share one large ablution facility (male / female split) with showers, baths, toilets and wash basins. It also has a communal laundry/scullery with a washing machine and basins.
Camping gear available from Scuttle
ROOIKAT CHALET:
3 bedrooms. Can sleep 8 in bedrooms, 1 on landing. Ground floor has open-plan lounge, dining room / kitchen area, outside stoop as well as 1 bedroom with double bed, separate shower, separate toilet. 2nd floor has main bedroom with a double bed; a bedroom with 4 single beds; a bathroom with bath, shower & toilet
The chalet is fully equipped with a 4 - plate stove with oven, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, pots, pan, cutlery and crockery. Bedding is supplied but no towels
MEALS:
All meals are self-catered. There will be fires for communal braais on Friday and Saturday evenings.
All meals, hiking snacks and any other beverages and snacks are for your own account

Time - Approx 4.0 hours

CARPOOLING (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED):
Carpooling is NOT facilitated by the Organiser. You organise your own carpool, whether you offer rides or are looking for a ride.
Calculate the vehicle running cost. Multiply the total return distance by the running cost (NOT TOTAL COST), add tolls and divide by number of people in the vehicle to get the individual cost. Distance is calculated from the first pick-up point.

FITNESS:
YOU AND YOUR GUESTS are required to have an intermediate level of fitness for most of the hikes (3.5km/hr or 18min/km over moderate terrain)
INDEMNITY:
YOU AND YOUR GUESTS participating in Weekend Nature & Hiking Getaways activities do so AT THEIR OWN RISK.
The Organisers and Hosts are indemnified from any loss, injury or any incident that prejudices Members and their guests.
Members and their guests must ensure that they have the required hiking gear to comfortably participate in the event.
