About us
We are a friendly group for everyone who loves to hike in nature and have good company. Beside hiking our focus is on conversation and building friendships.
Membership Notice
Our group has grown very quickly over the past months. To keep the hikes enjoyable and manageable for everyone, we currently limit the number of members in the group.
For the time being, we can usually only accept new members when other members leave the group.
However, the group can grow further if experienced members who we already know and trust are willing to organize hikes themselves. This helps us keep the group active while maintaining a good and safe experience for everyone.
We kindly ask for your understanding if your membership request cannot be accepted immediately.
Our goal is to keep the group size at a level where hikes remain social, safe, and well organized. If you are already an active participant and would like to help organize hikes, feel free to contact the organizers.
Quality of Experience
Even though we are a large community, we prioritize a high-quality experience for every hiker.
To keep the group dynamic balanced and suitable for longer hikes, most of our participants are between roughly 25 and 55 years old. Vienna offers many excellent hiking groups for other age groups, and we encourage everyone to find the community that fits them best.
We only accept members who have a profile picture and are a good fit for the group. We also reserve the right to remove members from the group.
Our hikes range from easy social hikes to more challenging mountain hikes. For challenging mountain tours, only participants are allowed who we already know from easier hikes and can thus estimate the hiking strength.
Basic Rules
* Be friendly and inclusive
* Bring suitable hiking shoes, water, snacks, and weather-appropriate clothing.
* Sign up, and please cancel if you cannot attend.
* People who do not respect or recognize other peoples boundaries are removed from the group.
* The journey to the hikes is always by public transport.
* All events are free of charge.
Participation & Group Management
Participation in events is subject to organizer discretion and group management considerations. Registrations may be declined, and participation may be adjusted before or during an event if required for safety, logistics, or the overall group experience.
Only registered participants may join a hike. Unregistered attendees cannot be guaranteed participation.
Important Notes
Hikes may be adjusted or cancelled at short notice due to weather, public transport disruptions, or organizer illness. Updates will always be posted via Meetup as soon as possible.
We strongly recommend membership in an alpine club (ÖAV, NFÖ, or ÖTK). Alpine clubs maintain trails and huts, promote outdoor safety, and provide essential insurance coverage for hikers and rescue services.
Our hikes are purely joint leisure events. The organizers and co-organizers are not certified hiking or mountain guides. Participation is at your own responsibility and risk.

Wien Westbahnhof, Europaplatz 1, Wien, ATHi everyone,
On Saturday, April 4, 2026, I’m planning a beautiful spring hike in the UNESCO-Region Wachau from Paudorf to the Mammoth trees (Sequoia trees, Redwood trees) and (hopefully) blooming apricot tree gardens near Angern to our final destination to Göttweig abbey (Stift Göttweig) in Furth bei Göttweig.
This hike is all about walking, wide views, and enjoying the landscape together with plenty of time for conversation, short breaks, and simply being outdoors.Highlights
🌄Wide Wachau views combined with peaceful vineyard and apricot garden scenery

At the end of the hike, everyone can decide individually whether to stay with the group or travel back to Vienna independently.
The restaurant at Göttweig Abbey may be open depending on our arrival time and seat availability.

The best ticket choice for this trip by train is likely to be the VOR Freizeitticket.
It costs €19.90 for the day in Lower Austria and covers ÖBB regional trains (trains operated by the Wachaubahn, displayed as WHB in the train schedules, are not included) and local buses in Lower Austria.

Krems–Dürnstein Panorama Loop: Spring Views & Castle Ruins
Franz Josefs Bahnhof, Julius-Tandler-Platz, Wien, ATHi everyone,
On Sunday, April 5, 2026, I’m planning a beautiful spring hike in the UNESCO World Heritage region of Wachau, following a scenic circular route from Krems via the Hohen Markstein, the Fesslhütte and the famous castle ruins of Dürnstein, before returning to Krems.
Along the way, we pass quiet natural areas, historic stone vineyard terraces, and enjoy wide panoramic views before returning to the charming town of Krems.
This hike is all about walking, wide views, and enjoying the landscape together — with plenty of time for conversation, short breaks, and simply being outdoors.Fitness Note:
Although we will walk at a relaxed pace, the hike requires moderate physical effort due to its length (about 18 km).
The trails themselves are not technically difficult, but a reasonable level of fitness is needed to comfortably complete the distance.Highlights
🌄 Beautiful walk from historic Krems to Dürnstein through classic Wachau vineyard scenery
🏘️ Charming old towns of Krems and Stein with narrow streets and centuries-old architecture
🏰 Visit the famous castle ruins of Dürnstein, where King Richard the Lionheart was once imprisoned
🌸 Late March to mid-April is peak season for the famous Wachau Marillenblüte (apricot blossoms). With a bit of luck, we’ll walk right through blooming apricot trees — one of the most beautiful sights of spring in AustriaMeeting Point & Travel
📍 Meeting point: Franz-Josefs-Bahn station at 07:30 a.m., near the ticket machines to buy the group ticket. If you arrive too late for the group ticket you have to buy your own ticket individually, the best choice is likely the VOR Freizeitticket. Information regarding the tickets at the end of the post. The train leaves at 08:00 from Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof. We will arrive in Krems at 09:08.
Hike Details
Duration: Approx. 6.5 hours (pure walking time)

There is a public toilet in Dürnstein before we start the hike and another one in Krems at the end. If we are lucky, we may also pass an open Heuriger along the way.Important Notes

*The "Einfach-raus" Group Ticket
We will use a group ticket, and it requires some coordination:
How it works:
It is one ticket for a group of 2–5 people.
We will form these groups at the meeting point at 07:30; please be on time if you want to participate.
You must travel together for both the departure and the return journey.
You cannot split off and take a different train home if you are on a group ticket.
The cost:
The more people in a group, the cheaper it gets.
Expect to pay between €10 and €19 per person.
To be fair, we can either pay by specific group size or pool all the money and split it equally.
Cash is mandatory:
Please bring physical cash and coins.
We need to collect the money before buying the tickets to make sure everyone gets their change back quickly.
Information regarding this ticket:
https://www.oebb.at/en/tickets-kundenkarten/freizeit-urlaub/einfach-raus-ticket
If you prefer not to be tied to a group, or if you aren’t sure when you want to head back to Vienna, do not join the group ticket.
Instead, buy the VOR Freizeitticket; it costs €19.90 for the day in Lower Austria.
This will also be your option if you arrive too late for the group ticket or one group doesn't have enough participants for a group ticket.
