Puchberg to Kaiserebenwiese: Autumn Trails & Views

Hi everyone!

On Saturday, October 17th, 2026, I’m planning a beautiful autumn hike from Puchberg am Schneeberg through peaceful forests and open meadows. We’ll enjoy the autumn colours, fresh mountain air and scenic views along the way.

Highlights along the way
🍂 Autumn forests and quiet trails – Enjoy the colours of the season as we walk through forests and across open meadows.
🏔️ Kaiserebenwiese – A lovely open meadow with views of the surrounding mountains and the Schneeberg area.
🌲 A day in nature – Discover a quieter side of Lower Austria and enjoy a day outdoors with good company.

Meeting Point & Travel
We will meet at Wien-Meidling train station at 08:15 a.m. near the ticket machines.
The train R98 leaves at 08:44 a.m. from Wien-Meidling.
Please arrive on time so we can organise the group tickets before departure!
Trains back to Vienna run approximately every hour. I expect us to catch the 17:36 train from Puchberg, depending on our pace and the conditions along the way.

What to Expect
We’ll walk together at a relaxed, social pace and stay together as a group throughout the day.
This is not a race or a performance hike. The focus is on sharing the experience, having conversations and enjoying the landscape at an unhurried pace.
We’ll take regular short breaks whenever needed.

🥪 Food and drinks: We don’t plan to stop at huts or restaurants during the hike, so please bring your own snacks and lunch, as well as at least 1.5 litres of water.
🌧️ Weather: Mountain weather can change quickly in autumn. Please bring rain protection and dress in layers.
🥾 Footwear: Please wear sturdy hiking shoes. Some sections may be muddy or slippery, depending on the weather.
🧢 Sun protection: A hat, sunscreen and sunglasses are recommended, especially on warm or sunny days.
🧥 Warm clothing: Temperatures can be lower in the mountains, so please bring an extra warm layer.
🚻 Toilets: Toilets are available on the train, at the train station and possibly at the Öhlerschutzhaus if it is open. There may be no other toilet facilities along the route.
Please make sure you feel comfortable walking around 18 km with approximately 640 metres of elevation gain.

As always, this is a free, private leisure activity. I’m not a certified hiking guide, and participation is at your own responsibility and risk. Please ensure you are comfortable with the planned distance, elevation gain, difficulty level, and (alpine) terrain. The route or plans may need to change depending on the weather and trail conditions.

The “Einfach-raus” Group Ticket
We will use a group ticket, which is cheaper than buying individual tickets but requires some coordination.
How it works
One ticket is valid for a group of 2–5 people.
We will form these groups at the meeting point at 08:15 a.m. Please be on time if you want to participate.
Everyone using the same group ticket must travel together on both the outward and return journeys. You cannot leave the group and take a different train home using that ticket.
The cost
The more people in a group, the cheaper the ticket per person.
Expect to pay between €10 and €19 per person.
To keep things fair, we can either pay according to the size of each group or pool all the money and split it equally.
Cash is mandatory
Please bring physical cash, preferably with some coins. We need to collect the money before buying the tickets so that everyone can receive their change quickly.

If you prefer not to be tied to a group or are unsure when you want to return to Vienna, please do not join a group ticket.
Instead, you can buy the VOR Freizeitticket, which costs €19.90 for a day in Lower Austria.
This is also an option if you arrive too late to join the group ticket or if there are not enough people to form a group.
