Hi everyone!

On Sunday, November 29, 2026, I’m planning a beautiful winter hike in the hills above Perchtoldsdorf, just south of Vienna.
We’ll explore the scenic Perchtoldsdorfer Heide, walk along forest paths and climb several small hills with lovely views over Vienna and the surrounding countryside.

Along the way, we’ll visit the historic Kammerstein Castle ruins, enjoy panoramic views, and hike up to the Parapluiberg .
If the weather is clear, we may even be able to see the Schneeberg from the Josefswarte!

After our hike, we'll head into Perchtoldsdorf to enjoy the festive atmosphere of its traditional Christmas markets. It’s a lovely opportunity to warm up with a hot drink, explore the market stalls and spend some time together before heading home.

Meeting Point
Rodaun – Tram 60 Terminus
Meeting time: 11:00 a.m.
Please arrive a few minutes early so we can gather and start together.
It’s a circular hike so we’ll return there in the end.
🥾 Hike Details
Duration: Approx. 4 hours (pure walking time)
Distance: Approx. 12 km
Elevation: Approx. 380 m ascent
Difficulty: Technically easy, but with some steep uphill and downhill sections.
Pace: Comfortable and social, with regular short breaks.
The route includes a few unmarked sections. The paths are visible, but you should be comfortable walking on forest trails and uneven ground.
Please note that winter conditions can make some sections slippery, muddy or icy. Good footwear and sure-footedness are important. We’ll adjust the hike according to the group's needs and weather conditions if necessary.

Christmas Market
After the hike, we’ll visit the Advent market in Perchtoldsdorf.
Depending on the time and opening hours, we can explore the traditional Adventmarkt am Kirchenbergl and, if open, the Christmas market at Perchtoldsdorf Castle.
You can enjoy some local food, browse handmade crafts or simply relax with a hot punch or tea.

What to Bring

  • Sturdy hiking shoes with good grip
  • Warm winter clothing (preferably several layers)
  • Gloves and a warm hat
  • Snacks and enough drinks (at least 1.5 litres of water)
  • Rain protection
  • A headlamp or torch, just in case
  • Hiking poles (recommended)
  • Gaiters, mikrospikes (optional but useful in winter)
  • Extra socks are always a good idea in winter!
