Tawharanui Regional Park - The tracks will loop the whole park aprox distance is 16 kms.

Tāwharanui Regional Park includes one of Auckland's best beaches. The 588 hectare park features green pastures, wetlands and a gorgeous white, sandy beach that attracts plenty of surfers. The park is the country's first sanctuary combining farming, conservation and sanctuary.
Set on a remote peninsula, Tāwharanui Regional Park boasts some of the Auckland region’s most beautiful white sand beaches, rolling pastures, shingled bays, native coastal forest and regenerating wetlands. It includes the Tāwharanui Open Sanctuary and the Tāwharanui Marine Reserve which borders the northern coast line

Meet at Anchor bay car park- near public restrooms @ 9.30 AM
Introduction, meet & greet.
Start Hike: 9:40am
Basic plan: Hike the park in a loop starting eastwards
North coast track - Tokatu Point - Maori bay coastal track or South coast track - Lagoon - Mangatawhiri Track
Low tide
Aim to finish hike/ coastal walk by 4.30 PM

Chill/swim at Anchor bay or some small caves to explore after hike.

20 min lunch break before we start the coastal walk at Maori bay or coast rack , this to asses tide etc .

This Hike will cover approximately 16 kms and not limited to hills, rough terrain, cliffs, boulders etc

Please check the track and other details yourselves.

Matakana market can be your coffee stop depending on your carpool, but be on time. Be mindful of possible traffic it tends to be a bottleneck on SH1 while entering the town.

Recommended Items to carry but not limited to:

  • Enough food and drink for duration of trip (at least 2 litre water)
  • Layered clothing suitable for summer and possible cold temperatures
  • Footwear suitable for rough tramping tracks
  • Sun and rain protection
  • Swimming Togs
  • Plastic bags for muddy footwear
  • Extra clothing and footwear to change into after hike
  • Food
  • First-aid items
  • Torch
  • Clean footwear
  • Humour & smiles

It is imperative we are respectful and caring of our environment, local culture and fellow members. Other than the start time , all other measures are a close estimate.

$1 donation for running cost of the group is highly appreciated

Transportation & Carpooling:
Please update in the comments section if you need or can offer rides with your suburb. And then private message each other if need be to decide the exact location and time of pick. It is very important that the drivers update me with their passengers details a day or two before the trip. Members are very helpful to offer rides. Members requiring a ride to pay $20 to the driver in cash directly.
