Ernies loop-Hunua and Rata ridge track
Details
Greetings everyone,
On Saturday, 17th of January we will head to Hunua ranges regional park and hike Ernies track and Ridge track loops.
The Ernies and Lilburn Track provide a mixture of bush and open vistas in this part of the Hunua Ranges National Park. This is a lovely walk in our local bush, also along the reservoir. This loop offers nice views. This loop walk passes through the Piggott's campground and includes river crossing.
Drive to: Upper Mangatawhiri Dam Carpark, we will meet there for briefing, introductions at 9.30 AM, to start hiking at 9.45 AM.
Plan to stop for lunch halfway and a couple more stops for 10/15 min.
Summary of hike:
Distance: Up to 20 km total
Time: Up to 7 hrs to complete, including stops.
Terrain: Mix, gravel road, hiking trails.
Difficulty: 3, moderate hike suitable for intermediate hikers who have done a few challenging hikes around NZ and who can keep up with the group at a moderate pace.
Prepare to cross a small river crossing.
