CHANGED to bypass Topanga Canyon Landslide
Our second Wilderness Adventures Section Backbone Trail hike in the Santa Monica Mountains will be 7 miles on the BBT with 1000 elevation gain from Top of Reseda to Trippet Ranch. We will start at the Top of Reseda Trailhead and hike to beyond Hub Junction to the intersection where we took the Temescal Ridge Trail on the first Backbone Trail leg. We will than turn around and take the BBT past Hub and Eagle Junctions to Musch Camp finishing at Trippet State Park, our car shuttle point.
This is a one-way shuttle hike. Meet at Trippet Ranch parking lot before 8:00 AM. It is recommended not to take PCH to Trippet Ranch unless you know the landslide has been cleared. Instead take 101 to Topanga Canyon Boulevard then 7 miles south on Topanga Canyon Boulevard to Entrada Road, 1 mile, 2 left turns to lot). Park free on Entrada Road and walk in or in lot (fee, or free with appropriate parking permit). From the meeting point at Trippet Ranch, we will car shuttle 15 miles up Topanga Canyon Boulevard then across to Reseda Boulevard to the Top of Reseda Trailhead.
Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and a good attitude. Rain, excessive heat, or Red Flag alert cancels.
This is a Sierra Club hike, so participants must sign in and hike between the leader and sweep. Please print out the Sierra Club medical form and bring it with you. TRAILHEAD LOCATION: Meet at Trippet Ranch parking lot at 8:00 AM. Take PCH to Topanga Canyon Boulevard, North 4 miles to Entrada Road, 1 mile, 2 left turns to lot; or 7 mi S of 101/Ventura Freeway on Topanga Canyon Boulevard to Entrada Road). Park free on Entrada Road and walk in or in lot (fee, or free with appropriate parking permit).
CAR SHUTTLE: From the meeting point at Trippet Ranch, we will car shuttle 12 miles down Topanga Canyon Boulevard to PCH and then up Palisades Park to the Skull Rock Trailhead.
