The Amphitheater on Mt Diablo

Details

This historic spot located on the southeast side of Mt. Diablo includes amzazing views of the mountain, an amphitheater rock formation, plus several Native American grinding holes nearby. This is a moderate out-and-back 3.6 mile hike with cumulative vertical gain of 833 ft. (see map for reference).

NOTE: There are no facilities and limited trailhead parking (5 cars max). Because of this, we will meet up at the North Peak Trailhead Parking area then carpool or shuttle to the trailhead from there (about 10 minutes away). The North Peak Trailhead parking area is located on Morgan Territory Rd just south of the intersection with Marsh Creek Road here.

Alternatively, you can meet me for carpooling from the Walnut Creek Friends Church back parking lot here leaving at 8:10 am. Please confirm to coordinate timing.

Our hike includes the following trails:

  • Morgan Creek Road (Red Corral trailhead)
  • Jeremiah Creek Trail
  • Old Finley Road
  • Amphitheater Road (Snacks at the Amphitheater)

Dogs are not allowed.

As usual, be sure to bring sturdy shoes, water to drink, a snack to eat, and an attitude for making friends.

I'm looking forward to sharing this very special place with you all.

Doug
