Beyond Castle Rock via Little Yosemite Trail to Buckeye Ravine Loop

Greetings everyone!

Sorry for the late notice, but I just got cleared yesterday from having Covid the last 10 days, and now I'm ready to hit the trail.

You are likely familiar with hiking in and out of Castle Rock in Walnut Creek. But have you gone above and beyond the end of the trail? This trek does exactly that and is a real treat once you get beyond the main trail.

This moderate hike is a 4.18 mile loop with excellent views of Mount Diablo and the surrounding hills. The elevation gain is approximately 679 feet. Our trek begins at the Castle Rock parking lot at the end of Castle Rock road, and goes along the following trails:

• Stage Road Trail
• TR Little Yosemite Trail
• TR Briones to Mount Diablo Regional Trail
• TR Buckeye Ravine Trail
• TL Stage Road Trail
• TL Castle Rock Trail

Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on the Little Yosemite Trail as it is part of Mount Diablo State Park.

Let's meet up at the Castle Rock parking lot at the end of Castle Rock Road at 9:00 am (1700 Castle Rock Road). If the lot is full, park in the Orchard Staging Area and take the Castle Rock Trail south to the Castle Rock parking area.

Alternatively you can meet me for carpooling at the Walnut Creek Friends Church back parking lot (1950 First Avenue, Walnut Creek) leaving at 8:30 am.

Be sure to bring sturdy shoes, water to drink, a snack to eat, a hat to wear, and an attitude for making friends.
