Fernandez Ranch, Martinez

Details
The Fernandez Ranch John Muir Land Trust is one of my favorite hikes in the east bay hills. This moderate 6.25 mile hike includes a variety of environments including open grassland, shaded oak forest, and top of hill overlooks. Elevation gain is a mostly gradual 919 ft with stunning views and scenery. The hike is located south of highway 4 in Martinez on the way to Pinole.
Check out this map for a preview of the trail.
Dogs are allowed off leash under voice control.
• Logistics:
Lets meet at the trail head parking lot at 9:00 am. The address is 1081 Christie Road, Martinez. Note: From Concord be very careful when you get back on highway 4 eastbound - the cars come up VERY FAST! Also Christie road is a "minor" partially paved road on the right - immediately BEFORE the train track under crossing.
Alternatively, you can meet me at the Walnut Creek Friends Church back parking lot for carpooling leaving at 8:15 am. The church address is 1950 First Avenue in Walnut Creek.
Plan on a warm hike and be sure to bring plenty of water, a hat, sturdy shoes or boots , a snack, and as always an attitude for making friends.
See you soon!
Doug
