PARKING
Meet at the Henry Coe Park HQ (37.18699379723241, -121.54713251712633). Reasonable amount of parking there but come early to be sure. Overflow parking is available but is a 1/2 mile walk. Factor that in to your arrival time if you're arriving 8:30 or later. Park office opens at 8:15 and can take credit cards to pay for parking.
DETAILS
This is a ~12 mile loop. Starting from the park HQ, we take Manzanita Road down to Poverty Flats (~4 miles). This part is either flat or downhill so we will do it briskly (within reason). From there we climb over the hill on Poverty Flat Road and head down to Los Cruzeros where we will take a short break at the water hole.
From there we will head west in the Narrows. This part of the trail is flowing this time of year so we will be crossing the creek many times. Expect to get wet up to your thighs. Last time we did this in the winter, it was up to 2.5 ft deep at some points for short segments. You need to be comfortable getting wet.
After we exit the Narrows we will arrive at China Hole (~7 miles in) and rest there for lunch. It is a swimming hole so those that want to can jump in. The forecast is for 69 degrees and sunny,
From there, we will head up to Manzanita Point (~10 miles) and then back to HQ, optionally taking the Spring Trail.
Total elevation gain is ~2,100 ft.
I will provide overviews on some of the fauna and flora we encounter to those interested.
APPROXIMATE Details of the trail are available here (we will NOT be taking the exact route).
IMPORTANT
Fitness wise, you should be able to hike at at least 2.5 MPH on flat ground for several hours and have hiked similar distances and climbs in the recent past.
Please make sure to test your shoes/boots and anything else you bring, prior to the hike.
