Details

Experience the fauna and flora of the Monte Bello Preserve at night.

You must be comfortable hiking with a headlamp in the dark. We will have a full moon but due to tree cover, it will not be of much help.

This hike is only open to hikers that have been on an HACC hike previously. No first timers, sorry.

We will be guided by volunteer docents on a ~3.5 mile hike through the preserve. Meet at the Skeggs Point parking lot at 5:45 PM. We will start at the Methuselah tree, one of the few survivers of the 19th century clear cutting and continue on to the Creek and Tafon trails. We will hike at a relaxed pace to make sure we stick together and have time to observe and listen.

Required equipment - A headlamp with a red light. Cell phone and other flash lights are not allowed on this hike.
Optional - A black light (UV). It will help illuminate any bioluminescent animals we may encounter.

You can see the route here - https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/tafoni-loop
The pakring lot address is - 15463 CA-35, Redwood City, CA 94062

IMPORTANT NOTES

  1. You may not leave the hike in the middle.
