Hike Details.

Epping Forest is one of a number of green spaces that lie just outside London. It covers around 6,000 acres of ancient woodland consisting of various tree species including oak and beech, many pollarded (pruned) from medieval times.

The forest was a royal hunting ground and is now run and managed by The City of London Corporation that also manages Burnham Beeches and Hampstead Heath.
Some features on this walk include Queen Elizabeth's Tudor hunting lodge (outside view), a number of lakes and ponds such as Connaught Water (named after the Duke of Connaught) and the Loughton earthworks (Iron Age Camp) thought to date back to 500 BC, and a number of panoramic views such as 'High Beach.'

Lunch and Finish

Meeting point for walk: Meet outside Loughton Underground Station for the walk to start at 10.00 am.

This is a circular hike and finishes back at Loughton underground Station.

Please bring a snack lunch and water for the walk. The walk should finish at about 5.00 pm and include a 30 min snack lunch stop at around 2 pm and optional pub at the end, however the time may be earlier or later than this depending on the weather and pace. We will probably stop for lunch at the visitor centre at High Beach.

Car: Loughton Car Park is £3 on Saturday, other options or free road parking may be available (please leave allow enough time to park and check for restrictions).

Parking your car is free on Sunday I think. Check the road signs. If you park your car 5 minutes walking distance from the Loughton underground tube station its free on Sunday. Not sure about Saturday. Try your luck.

Loughton is on Zone 6 and on the Central Line so you can use an oyster card or travel card.

Hiking shoes must be worn.

Bring packed lunches
and plenty of water.

THIS HIKE IS FLAT AS WELL AS UNDULATING IN PLACES BUT ALSO FAIRLY LONG, PLEASE ENSURE YOU ARE HAPPY WITH THIS.

Hiking Fee:

£10 per person Attending. Must make Bank transfer before attending. Via WhatsApp. 07590 919391

Bring your own food and snacks and plenty of water. and Dress Appropriately for the weather. Packed lunches. No shops in the forest.

Dress appropriately for the weather forecast.

The weather forecast may say rainfall is expected but I will always say don't look at the weather forecast for the day without checking the volume of rain expected. If less than 4 mm of rain is expected during the entire day then this implies that it will be a drizzle. Not heavy rain and rain will stop after 30-45 Minutes.

Volume of rainfall is more important information than the probability of rainfall.
Always look at the volume of the rainfall and not the probability of rainfall when reading weather forecast reports on weather.com .
1-2 Mm of rainfall is equal to a drizzle for less than 30 minutes.
