Breathtaking Views at Trexler Preserve for Bison & Elk

3.5-4 hours, 8-11 miles, very hilly, beautiful views, foliage, great trails, elk & bison, option to drive through preserve afterwards, different route each time, 25 miles of trails available. Apple trees along trail may be ripe for picking.

There is no place like Trexler Preserve in the area. The views from many vantage points and trails are just stupendous. The foliage in the spring and summer is incredible: one year someone described the hike as walking in a terrarium. Fall colors are also spectacular. The trails usually twist and turn, sometimes they go straight up; no climbing, but just about as steep as you can make a hill.

Trexler is also a preserve for elk and bison. They roam freely in a separate large areas with Jurassic Park type fences at the boundary. We always see the Bison. If we are lucky we'll get some good sightings of Elk.

We usually only hike Trexler in the spring and fall. In the summer many areas are exposed to the sun. In the winter, snow or ice could make steep trails dangerous.

Carpooling
To carpool from Hill House (201 W Evergreen Ave, Phila) meet 1 hour 10 minutes before the event. Carpool time changes if hike time changes. Text me (267 629-2134) 3-4 days in advance.
