Architectural Gems of Philadelphia Neighborhoods: Washington Square West
Details
2.5-3 hours, 2-3 miles, brisk pace between stops, best buildings in Philadelphia's Washington Square West neighborhood, lunch afterward if there's interest.
We are continuing our hikes to check out the most impressive architectural gems in a series of Philadelphia neighborhoods. For this one we will hike through the Washington Square West neighborhood, which has so much more to offer than the square itself (which is admittedly glorious this time of year). Among the highlights will be an elegant music hall that was the site of the first Republican National Convention in 1856, the city's most beautiful building in the Italianate style, and the city's most beautiful building in the Federal style (particularly impressive, as Philadelphia is home to more than 500 buildings in this style).
As always, no knowledge of architecture is needed . . . just an interest in seeing beautiful places and a willingness to stay with the group.
