*Venue changed to Potash Mountain, by Lake Luzerne. This is a 3 to 4 mile round-trip out and back hike with nice views of mountain surrounding Lake Luzerne elevation gain approximately 1000 feet with a summit elevation of 1750 feet some minor scrambling near the summit. Dress for winter conditions and wear hiking boots. Bring snow shoes, micro spikes hydration lunch snacks. A pad to sit on for lunch at the Summit will be a good idea. I am not planning to go for food after this hike. Please meet at Northway exit 9 Fire Rd. park-and-ride at 9:30 AM to carpool or you can meet us at trailhead on Potash Road in Lake Luzerne at 10:30 AM. Directions to trailhead; Northway north get off at exit 21 turn left on Route 9N and heading towards.Lake Luzerne. Go Approximately 7 miles turn right on potash Road then approximately 3/4 of a mile to large parking lot at trailhead on the right.

Goodnow Mt and fire tower is located in the Adirondacks in Newcomb. The fire tower had been in some disrepair in recent years but in 2025 it was restored.Renovations include new metal steps, roof, and landings plus repainting and cabin restoration.This is a 4 to 4 1/2 mile out and back hike with 1100 feet of elevation gain in a summit elevation of 2700+ or minus feet. . Wear appropriate winter hiking gear and boots. Bring snow shoes, micro spikes, hydration, snacks, and lunch. No dogs, please. Meet at exit 9 Northway Fire Rd. Park and Ride to carpool at 8 AM. We will make a brief stop at the Northway exit 25 Stewart’s. If you just want to bring a light lunch, we can stop at the Black Bear Pottersville for food on the way home. This is not for beginners and you should be an excellent physical condition doing regular aerobic exercise in order to participate.
