Short Notice: Bennett Hill Preserve
Details
We will hike a three mile loop along the green, red, and yellow trails of the Bennett Hill preserve, which overlooks Clarksville. The hill rises over Clarksville and stands only a short distance from the base of the Helderberg Escarpment. Although the top of the hill is only 400 feet above the surrounding land, it offers striking views of the Helderbergs to the north and west, and Albany to the east. We will start at an elevation of 740' and climb 400 feet to 1140'. Views along the way include the surrounding countryside, the Heldebergs and a very narrow outlook at the top of the hill toward the city of Albany. Although this will be a relatively short hike of approx. 1.5 hrs, it includes a fairly steady uphill grade and a few short steep sections on the way up. Dress for the weather with layers of non cotton clothes, and wear hiking boots.(No sneakers) . Bring water, snacks, bug spray. Check yourself for ticks after the hike. Dogs Welcome. Meet at the Bennett Hill Trailhead on Bennett Hill Rd, New Scotland at 2:00PM. HIKE STARTS AT 2:05PM. The map depiction shown here is accurate. Rain cancels the outing. AllTrails rates this a moderately challenging hike due to the amount of elevation gain over a short distance.
