Big Sur: a "Hawaii similar" in mainland, locates between San Luis Obispo and Monterey on the Coast offers spectacular scenery within steps of Highway 1. And for those willing to hike a few miles, the rewards include rapidly changing settings of oak and lush redwood forests, ocean views, rocky streams, and coastal brush. We will take our time hiking and taking photos. This trip is appropriated for Intermediate Hikers who are up to Exploratory and UNKNOWNS
CAMPING:
We will be camping at the beautiful and famous Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. This campground is nestled in a redwood forest with a river flowing near the campsite.
We have a site for 2 nights and a site for 3 nights. Each site holds 8 people and 2 cars.
3 nights: 6/9-6/12 (Thursday - Sunday)
2 nights: 6/10-6/12 (Friday - Sunday)
When signing up, please indicate which dates you will be attending.

RESERVING YOUR SPOT
If you sign up, please pay a $5 non-refundable deposit so we can hold the camp spot for you as cancellation fee just in case you can't make it. Please give the $5 cash to Lily or JohnR when you see us. Only sign up if you mean to join and please join us local hikes if you haven't hiked with us before!
We will be at Site #39. Reserved under: John Ryan
COST:
$16 for 2 nights.
$24 for 3 nights.
In addition to the above, there is a $5 fee per vehicle per day. The ranger won't collect the $5 from the 1st car that enter per site. If you're the first person per site, please reimburse JohnR that $5/day so that parking cost can be distributed among all. Beyond the 2nd car, you'll have to park in the overflow or day us park. It could cost as much as $12 per night to park. This is a good trip to carpool.
CONVENIENCE
Campground has paid hot shower. There is also a general store and restaurant on site.

DRIVING TIME: it's about 6.5+ hours of 300+ miles from OC
6/2/2011 ROAD CONDITION UPDATE, courtesy of William: The road is still not repaired, but the good news is we don't have to drive all the way to Monterey. Instead of taking the Morro Bay/Cambria route, we'll need to drive past Paso Robles on the 101 and take the Jolon road exit toward Fort Hunter Ligget. This will cut through the mountain and take you to PCH via Nacimento-Ferguson road.
