THIS IS NOT INTRODUCTION TO HIKING-Intermediate Plus for Distance and Exploratory!
DESCRIPTION: Chino Hills State Park is unique in that it provides refuge for both biodiversity and solitude to the visitors who enjoy their outdoor experiences. There is no other location in the LA Basin were people can drive a short distance and be swept away with scenic vistas, hike, bike or ride a horse on over 65 miles of trails. At 14,102 acres the park is managed as an open space habitat where all plant and animal life are protected.
ROUTE: A well maintained dirt-trail/fire-road, hiking the South Ridge East to Little Canyon crossing over to Telegraph, up to Gilman Peak via Sycamore Canyon, back down via McDermont to Four Corners cross over to San Juan Hill (The Highest Point in Chino Hills State Park), then down hill back to the trailhead.
DISTANCE & ELEVATION GAIN: 12+/- miles with 1500+/-ft gain; completed in about 3-4 hours.
BRING: Adequate water (1 to 3 liters), hat, sunscreen, snack, layered clothing to adjust to climate change. Trekking Poles are not needed, but entirely optional for this hike.
FACILITIES: No water or facilities are located at the trailhead. Urinating in public is punishable by a fine under California Penal Code section 640. First conviction not to exceed two hundred fifty dollars ($250).
DIRECTIONS, PARKING & FEES: Create a printable map with directions from your starting point, by clicking on the map above. Please contact me if you have any difficulties doing so. Keep in mind this is a residential neighborhood; let's be mindful of the residents living there. There are no entrance or parking fees at this location of the park.
Take the Lakeview Ave. turnoff from the 91 freeway in Anaheim and head North on Lakeview Ave. Continue about three miles and turn right on Yorba Linda Blvd. After another mile and a half, turn left on Fairmont Blvd. Continue two more miles and just over the top of the hill, turn left onto Rimcrest Drive. Continue and park just before Rimcrest veers left. If you end up in a culdesac, you've gone slightly too far. Please be considerate of this quiet neighborhood and park on the East side of Rimcrest Dr. where there are no houses...
DOGS: Sorry, dogs are not permitted on the trails.
WEATHER: Excessively hot weather or rain prior to, or day of will cancel the hike. Check weather conditions the day of HERE. (http://www.weather.com/weather/today/Yorba+Linda+CA+92887)
