Day 2: Let's have a "grand" experience of viewing Oct sky full stars/meteor shower and being at/hiking the Grand Canyon South Rim. Fall Foliage is in the North Rim!

Distance: 5+ miles RT.

Elevation loss/gain: 1500+ft.

Duration: 5-8 hours . Morning Hikes: 6 AM - 10 AM -- Late Afternoon Hike: 4 - 7 PM

  1. South Kaibab Trail (http://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/upload/SouthKaibabTrail.pdf) (Steep) The South Kaibab Trail begins south of Yaki Point on Yaki Point Road. Access to the trailhead is by shuttle bus (Kaibab Trail Route). Offers day hikes that range in distance up to 6 miles (round trip). Best views for a relatively short hike. Steep trail, no water, little shade. Water available seasonally at the trailhead. Highly recommend to hike with the group in the morning for 6 miles RT to Cedar Ridge (about 4 hours)

  2. Bright Angel Trail (http://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/upload/BrightAngelTrail.pdf): The Bright Angel Trail begins just west of Bright Angel Lodge and offers day hikes that range in distance up to 12 miles (round trip). Some shade. Seasonal water subject to pipeline breaks. Check at the Visitor Center or Backcountry Information Center for water status. Highly recommend to hike with the group in the afternoon around 3 PM for 3 miles RT to Mile and a Half Rest House or max to Three Mile Rest House (6 miles RT in 3-4 hours)

There are many View Points on the Rim trail that the shuttle can take you to one or another. Take your time and enjoy your sightseeing there!
