About the hike: The Wave Cave offers the best scenery the Superstition Mountains have to offer. Make sure to take a picture.
From the trail-head you will follow the old and wide dirt road for a while until you reach the wilderness fence line. It's easy to get lost. When you reach the fence there's an area to go through. It's difficult to see. Make sure you look closely. DO NOT follow the signs that say "trail". Once you get through the fence, just pay close attention to the cairns. Once you get past all that, the end is an awesome view from a larger than expected cave. The ascent basically gets steeper the closer you get. It's a great adventure!

Directions: Take Hwy 60 East (Superstition Freeway) for 32.5 miles

  • Turn left onto E Peralta Road and continue for 5.5 miles (9 km) This is a dirt road and some places get huge puddles after heavy rains.
  • Turn left when the road forks and you’ll see a sign “Peralta Trail 1.5 miles”
  • Continue for a half mile (.8 km) to the parking lot
  • The parking for Wave Cave Trail is at Carney Springs Trailhead. If the lot is full you can park at the nearby lot before you get to Carney Springs Trailhead or use the overflow parking at Lost Goldmine Trailhead which is .7 miles further down the road.

Vehicle Requirements: None, accessible to all, but highly recommended high clearance (SUV)

GOOD TO KNOW Wear good traction hiking shoes, hat, sunscreen, water, snacks, rain gears and the most important is Ten Essentials: https://www.meetup.com/HikingOC/messages/boards/thread/9535234
