Fern Lake Trail (Level 2)

The host have not hiked this trail before.

This hike is basically straight up to Fern Lake and back down. Being very steep does has an advantage with views of the canyon as well as Silver, Gull, and June Lakes. This trail has a large waterfall about halfway up. Once you arrive at the lake you can take in the high alpine scenery. This trail offers a wonderful variety of wildflowers in late spring into summer as well as the gold and yellow foliage in the fall.

Elevation Gain: about 1550 feet
Hike Time: about 3 hours
Difficulty: moderate

Trail Condition: steep and very rugged in sections

General Rating/Difficulty: Level 2 (Moderate Pace) for distance, elevation gain and strenuous

DIRECTIONS: The Fern Lake trail head is located on the June Lake Loop (Hwy 158). From the village, drive past the June Lake Fire Department #2, go about 1000 ft. Look for the trail head sign on your left.
