Description: This hike starts at the south end of the Crystal Cove Reef Point south parking lot. We will go down a ramp to the sand and walk South to Abalone Point in search of the Sea Stars (starfish). We will then return to Reef Point and then walk further North, toward the Crystal Cove Historic District, visiting the tide pools along the way.

For Level 1+: Walk the first part to Abalone Point and back to Reef Point, around 2 miles.

For Level 2: Continue to the second part of the walk to the tide pool area and back, about 4 miles total.

Length: 2 to 4+ miles.

Difficulty: Fairly easy. This is a mostly flat walk on the sand.

Pace: slow-paced stroll. About 25 - 30 minutes per mile.

Rating: Levels 1+ to 2 Click Here for hike RATING TABLE.

Pay Parking ($15-$20 or State Pass): We are starting at the Crystal Cove Reef Point Parking Lot. This is a paid parking lot. From Pacific Coast Highway, enter at the Reef Point Parking entrance across PCH from the Crystal Cove Shopping Center (south end). After paying the entry fee proceed to the STOP sign. The South Lot is to the left. Go ALL THE WAY TO THE SOUTH END of the lot. You will see a rest room there. Find a parking space and meet us by the rest rooms. If you decide to look elsewhere for free parking, allow extra time to walk to the meet up spot and AVOID GETTING YOUR CAR TOWED.

Route: We will head down the paved ramp next to the rest rooms to get to the sand. Then we head to the left (toward Laguna Beach).

Essentials: Water, maybe a snack or picnic lunch, sunglasses, flip flops or sandals, a hat or umbrella, a happy attitude and a big smile!
