A rare post on Big Bear Lake evening of viewing Perseid Meteors Shower and Milky Way.

The night time frames:

~9–11 PM: Milky Way landscape photography
11 PM–1 AM: Milky Way + occasional Perseids
1–3 AM: shift emphasis toward meteors
3–5 AM: best meteor window

For meteors, use a wide lens and don’t point directly at Perseus. Shooting roughly 45–90° away from the radiant tends to produce longer meteor trails across the photograph.

About the Perseid Meteors Shower
Active Dates: July 17 to August 24, 2026.
Best Hours: 11:00 PM local time through predawn, with peak rates right before dawn.
Location: Rural, dark-sky areas away from city light pollution yield the highest counts (30–50+ per hour), compared to urban viewing.
Equipment: No telescopes or binoculars are needed; use your naked eye and allow 20 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the dark.
