TORREY PINES HIKE- level 3
Details
THIS IS NOT AN EASY BEGINNER HIKE. Lots of elevation, stairs, and rugged terrain.
Torrey Pines is an incredible hike in a majestic wilderness overlooking the ocean. The various trails we will be taking have scenic overlooks with panoramic views. We will hike through several different trails, each trail being unique with different but interesting terrain but all with fabulous views overlooking the various land formations as well as the ocean. Some of the trails we will be doing include Guy Flemming trail, high point stairs, Perry grove trail, Whitaker garden to scripps overlook, Red Butte, Razor point trail and Razor point, broken hill overlook, south fork trail, and Yucca point.
We will take a lunch break up on the bluff. Pack water, a lunch and wear appropriate gear
As the receding tide allows, we will descend to the beach and return along the sand and cliff base to the parking area. Low tide is at approximately 12:25, so we will be trying to time this accordingly. Hike will likely range from 5.5 to 7 miles. There are stairs to conquer on the various bluff trails. Plan on a full day, without the weekend crowds
Stats:
Distance- 5.5-7 + - miles
Elevation gain- 1100 feet.
General Rating: Level 3. moderate. Download RATING TABLE to read more about difficulty levels https://tinyurl.com/HikeRating
Due to the distance and elevation gain this hike is not for beginners.
This will not be a very fast paced hike and we will enjoy the scenery and take many breaks for photos and snacks along the way. It won’t be too slow either. This is meant to be a fun day.
Directions:
Meet at the Torrey Pines State Beach SOUTH parking lot. A Limited Use Golden Bear pass will allow free parking.
It’s the South Beach Lot. Do not go to the north beach lot. We’ve attached a photo.
