St. Paul Rodeo and Slack

Details

The St. Paul Rodeo is in St. Paul, Oregon starts on Tuesday July 1st, with Slack at 9am. If you haven't been to the Slack event at a rodeo it takes place in the mornings at 9am on Tuesday and Wednesday and in the afternoon at 3pm on Thursday and Saturday. Slack is free and open to the public.

Slack is a time other than during the main performance when the "extra" contestants compete in the rodeo. There are limited slots, typically 8 - 12, in each of the event in the rodeo's main performance. When more contestants enter than can compete in the main performances, they compete in the “Slack".

The morning Slack events are a great place to take photos since there are very few people in attendance admission is free and free parking on the streets of St. Paul. I'll be at the 9am Slack on Wednesday mornings arriving about 8:30am. The length of the Slack event depends on how many cowboys show up.

Same order of events each day:

  1. Steer wrestling
  2. Tie-down Roping
  3. Team Roping
  4. Barrel Racing

I'll be sitting in the main Arena and will be shooting across the arena. Bring a long telephoto lens.
