Join us for a refreshing winter hike to Shoshazan Engyō-ji, one of Himeji’s most historically important mountains and temple complexes!
Shoshazan is famous for its peaceful forest trails, ancient temple buildings, and its appearance in Hollywood films such as The Last Samurai starring Tom Cruise.
It’s an ideal place to enjoy nature, history, and great conversations with people from Japan and around the world.
Whether you're an experienced hiker or simply want a relaxing day in nature, everyone is welcome to join!

## Meeting Location:

In front of JR Himeji Station Central Gate
(Please arrive 10–15 minutes early)

## Event Flow

・9:00 — Meet at JR Himeji Station Central Gate
・Take a bus to Shoshazan Ropeway Station
・9:30–10:00 — Mountain hike (about 30 minutes)
※ Those who prefer an easier route may take the ropeway.
・10:30–13:00 — Explore Engyō-ji Temple & enjoy light snacks
We’ll visit the temple halls, filming locations, forest paths, and viewpoints.
・13:00 — Begin descent (You may leave here if needed)
・14:00 — Return to Himeji Station
Optional activities: lunch, café time, or daytime drinks
(Participation is free; you may also leave anytime)
・16:00 — Final dismissal

## About Shoshazan Engyō-ji

Shoshazan Engyō-ji is a temple founded in 966 AD and is considered one of the most important Tendai Buddhist temples in western Japan.
Located deep in the mountains, it has long been a place of spiritual training.

• Mani-den: A beautiful wooden hall built on pillars overlooking the forest
• Three Great Halls (Mitsunodō): Historic structures used for training monks
• Scenic forest trails perfect for photography and quiet reflection

Shoshazan is one of my favorite places in Himeji — peaceful, beautiful, and full of history.
The quiet atmosphere and wooden temple halls always leave a strong impression.
Through this event, I hope everyone can enjoy nature, good conversation, and cultural exchange in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Let’s spend a refreshing winter day together on Shoshazan!

## Organizer Profile

Kazu (Kazuaki Kaneda)

After graduating from university, I gave up on my first job in sales within a year.
Until the age of 29, I worked in the food and beverage industry while dedicating myself to basketball.
As I approached 30, I made the decision to “build a career using English” and went back to studying.
Within two years, I achieved a TOEIC score of over 900.
Since then:

• 7 years as an English instructor
• 5 years as a Japanese language teacher
• 7 years working in inbound tourism at a sake brewery
• 6 years promoting sake culture internationally

Through experiences I could never have imagined before learning English, I began to feel strongly about supporting others who are struggling with English. That led me to launch my work as an English Learning Advisor.

I provide personalized support for those who want to take on new challenges using English.

My program helps you build the English skills you need for your goals from the ground up, so you can take a new step forward with English as your strength.

In addition to working as a current English-speaking guide conducting various tours, I also run the local and online international exchange community “Himeji International Exchange.”

・9:00 — JR姫路駅中央改札前に集合
・バスで書写山ロープウェイ駅へ移動
・9:30〜10:00 — 登山（約30分）
※ 登山が難しい方はロープウェイ利用もOK
・10:30〜13:00 — 円教寺の散策・軽食
・摩尼殿
・三之堂（修行僧の学びの場）
・森林の散策路
・『ラストサムライ』撮影スポット
・写真スポットなど
・13:00 — 下山開始（ここで解散もOK）
・14:00 — 姫路駅に戻り、ランチ・カフェ・昼飲みなど自由参加
※途中参加・途中解散どちらもOK
・16:00 — 解散

## 書写山・円教寺について

円教寺は 966年創建 の天台宗の名刹で、西日本を代表する寺院の一つです。
山深くに位置し、古くから修行の場として栄えてきました。

### 見どころ

• 摩尼殿：森を見下ろすように建つ美しい舞台造りの本堂
• 三之堂（大講堂・常行堂・食堂）：僧侶の修行と学びの中心
• 静かな森の散策路
• トム・クルーズ出演『ラストサムライ』のロケ地

自然・歴史・寺院建築が調和した、姫路でも特に印象深いスポットです。

### 主催者プロフィール

Kazu（金田憲昭）：英語ガイド＋英語学習アドバイザー

大学卒業後、営業職を1年目で挫折。
29歳まで飲食業に従事し、バスケットに奮闘。30歳を前に「英語を使って仕事をしよう」と決意し、再勉強。2年でTOEIC900点超を達成。その後

・酒蔵でインバウンド担当7年
・海外向け日本酒発信活動6年

英語習得前には想像もしなかった経験を重ねる中で、英語に悩む方を支えたいと考え、英語学習アドバイザーとして活動を開始。

そんな想いを持つ方に向けて、目標に必要な英語力を基礎から育て、英語を武器に新しい一歩を踏み出せる自分になるためのパーソナルサポートを提供している。
