Our inaugural session will feature talks by Isaac Pinyol-Catadau, PhD, and Pascal Pfiffner, MD, PhD, about:

C3-PRO: A set of FHIR compliant research software tools for ResearchKit and ResearchStack.

C3-PRO (http://c3-pro.chip.org/) is an open-source framework of FHIR® (http://www.hl7.org/fhir/) compliant apps and middleware that enables secure, mobile-device collection and delivery of patient-reported health and activity data using ResearchKit (http://researchkit.org/) and ResearchStack (http://researchstack.org/). C3-PRO integrates these data collection systems into the open-source i2b2 (https://www.i2b2.org/) data warehouse ecosystem, and other database technologies, in a secure, highly scalable fashion (http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0152722).

Isaac Pinyol-Catadau is the co-developer of C3-PRO and a senior developer at the Computational Health Informatics Program at Boston Children's Hospital. He received his PhD in AI from the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute in Barcelona, Spain. In addition to C3-PRO, he leads cloud-based research data analytics platform development for the 14-site SCILHS (http://scilhs.org) research network. At iMathResearch (http://imathresearch.com) - a European cloud data analysis startup - Isaac led the design and development of iMathCloud (http://app.imathresearch.com/iMathConnect/), one of the first full-stack SaaS platforms for on-demand data analytics, predictive modeling, and High Performance Computation using Python, R, and Octave.

Pascal Pfiffner’s research at the Boston Children’s Hospital Computational Health Informatics Program (https://chip.org) and University Hospital Zurich’s Research Data Service Center focuses on developing healthcare informatics technologies that support caregivers and providers at the point-of-care and that leverage mobile devices for health data collection. Dr. Pfiffner is involved in the development of next-generation clinical application platforms as part of the SMART on FHIR (http://www.smarthealthit.org/) team, particularly focusing on mobile device applications that have helped to drive evolution of the FHIR (http://hl7.org/fhir) standard. He has created open-source frameworks for web and iOS app and services creation, and with the advent of Apple’s ResearchKit (http://researchkit.org/) and CareKit (http://carekit.org/) frameworks, he has built new tools that enable integration of data obtained directly from patients (PROs) with existing clinical research platforms, including i2b2 (http://i2b2.org/).

How to get there ~

This meeting will be held at 1 Autumn Street (https://goo.gl/maps/FpdNftN5CC52), Auditorium B. The building is at the corner of Riverway and Longwood Ave, in the Longwood Medical Area. It's easy to get to us, but the entire LMA area gets very congested around rush hour, so leave some extra travel time, especially if you are brave enough to drive. Google directions generally provide fairly accurate transit times.

• Via T, take the MBTA Green Line 'D' and get off at the Longwood stop in Brookline (between Fenway and Brookline Village T stations). Proceed up the hill on Chapel Street (the side near the small parking area which is opposite Longwood Towers Apartments). Make a left onto Longwood Ave and then at the next block, cross Riverway onto the opposite side of Longwood Ave. You'll see Autumn Street on your right, across from Temple Israel - 1 Autumn Street is the first building on your left.

• Via bus, take any bus that stops near the corner of Brookline Ave & Longwood Ave: CT2, 8, 9, 19, 47, 60, 65, M2 Shuttle. Walk Northwest on Longwood Ave, towards Riverway, for about 2 blocks and 1 Autumn Street will be on your left, right before Riverway and across from Temple Israel

• Via car, on-street parking is a bit limited in the area, but there are spots along Riverway and just adjacent in Brookline along Chapel Street, off of Kent Street, and surroundings.
