For many centuries Oxford University was the exclusive preserve of men. Yet women played a pivotal role in the foundation of the University Library, the Bodleian. Find out the fascinating details!
Explore the history of the Women’s Colleges established in the 19th century as we unearth the joys, studies and achievements as well as the struggles and restrictions of the early female students.
Discover inspirational muses such as Alice Liddell who inspired Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, and Jane Morris, the Pre-Raphaelite model who became the wife of William Morris.
In the 20th Century Oxford University educated many well known women. Investigate the University careers of leading politicians such as Margaret Thatcher and Indira Ghandi, well known actors such as Kate Beckinsale, influential authors such as Jan Morris and Iris Murdoch and business women such as Martha Jane Fox.
