Historic Abingdon's Neolithic Past to Scientific Present - with Buns thrown in!

Details
Join us as we return by popular demand to beautiful Abingdon on Thames, which claims to be the oldest town in England.
We will trace Abingdon’s story from its Neolithic past to its Scientific present. Hear the fascinating tale of the Benedictine Abbey which dominated the Medieval town for more than 500 years and learn how the feisty townsfolk rebelled against the Abbey’s power!
See stunning artwork and architecture including the Medieval ceiling paintings in St Helen’s Church and the amazing County Hall built by Christoper Wren’s right hand man.
Find out about the diverse “characters” who have called Abingdon home over the years, including the Prime Minister, Herbert Asquith and the MG motor car.
Discover the town’s quirky traditions such as Swan Upping, the annual election of the town’s Mock Mayor and of course the 400 year old tradition of bun throwing to mark Royal Occasions!
This tour will be led once again by historian and tour guide Jane Richardson.
