For as long as people have created art, they have depicted scenes of war—serving as records for future generations, tools of propaganda, acts of remembrance, or even as warnings to those who came after. This talk, held to mark the centenary of the Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery, explores how the portrayal of war in art has evolved over time and highlights images that capture not only the violence and suffering of conflict but also the extraordinary courage and heroism that humanity can display.
