Tour the Queensway Mersey Tunnel in Liverpool
Details
The Mersey Tunnel Tour takes you on a unique behind the scenes look at the famous Queensway Mersey Tunnel, which opened in 1934.
We will meet at the tour itself, which starts at George's Dock Building. They advise you to be there 15 minutes before the tour starts at 10am. For 2025 their visitor reception area has had a great new refurbishment which tells visitors all about the history of the tunnels through archive photographs and new information panels.
The tour will take approx two hours. As well as learning about the construction of the tunnel, you will visit the original control room, see a giant ventilation chamber and go down to watch the traffic in the tunnel, deep below the city streets. You will also find out which Hollywood movies the tunnel has featured in!
After the tour is finished we can find a place to eat, if people would like to.
The price of the tour is £12 per person. Book at their website:

Make sure you book Saturday March 28th. Please don't RSVP to this meetup until you have booked a ticket. If you are unable to book due to the tickets selling out, let me know and I'll update the event as full. As of making this event there were 15 places available but they could fill up fast, so it's best to book asap!
Unfortunately, only children over 10 years of age are allowed on the tour. There are a lot of steps to walk up and down during the tour and therefore it is not suitable for people with mobility, breathing and sight difficulties. The tour is also inadvisable for people in the later stages of pregnancy.
