Red Rising

Red Rising, the first in a series of dystopian science fiction novels by Pierce Brown, follows Darrow, a member of the oppressed Red caste who works in underground mines believing he's helping to terraform Mars for humanity's future, until he discovers that the surface has been habitable for centuries and he's been enslaved by the ruling Gold elite. After his wife is executed for singing a forbidden song, Darrow undergoes a dangerous transformation to infiltrate the Golds' brutal military academy, where he must survive their deadly games while plotting revolution from within their own ranks.
