Last Minute Sunset hike 1.9mi RT, 230 ft EG @ Van Slyke Castle

An easy out and back. We will come at this hike the back way which requires no water crossing or rock scrambling.

The speed will be slow - 2 - 2.5 miles per hour

Note: Past sunsets are no promise of the beauty of future sunsets

We will meet at cul de sac opposite 45 Wolfe Dr., Wanaque, NJ and start promptly at 7:30pm (the setting sun will not wait for us). We will hike up less than a mile partly on an ATV track and then up an unmarked trail.

We hope to get there with plenty of time to watch the sun's descent. Please bring something to eat and drink if you wish. Bring two sources of light - flashlight and/or headlamp in addition to your phone. Bring bug spray. Temperatures are forecast to be 80 degrees when we start and 75 degrees when back at the cars. Please dress appropriately.

I will also ask everyone to have a tracker on their phone just in case they get separated. If you do not have one yet, I suggest Gaia GPS.

You are responsible for bringing appropriate gear, supplies, clothing, first aid, and lights. You should review topographic maps and trail features carefully; understanding topography of any hike is key to your knowing where you are, where you're going, and how to get back.
