Gut health affects EVERYTHING: our physical health AND our mental health - from a strong well-functioning immune system, brain health, balanced mood, heart health, skin health, good quality sleep, and, of course, how we digest our food and absorb the nutrients our body needs.
The microbiome (gut bacteria) and the integrity of the gut wall (gut-immune interface), both are key to good overall health & wellbeing. On the flip side, gut dysfunction has been linked to many chronic conditions that are extremely common today. These include autoimmune disease, IBS, SIBO, anxiety, depression, hormone imbalance and skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis & acne for example).
Naturopathic medicine is very much about addressing the root of the symptoms you are experiencing, and gut health is a huge one. Antibiotics, poor diet, disturbed sleep and stress all affect your gut in negative ways. However, there are many simple actions we can implement via diet and lifestyle that will support and work towards resetting and restoring good gut health.
