1- Why homeschooling? Deschooling Society - Ivan Illich

Hello everyone! Welcome to our first event about homeschooling. As an introduction, and before we get started on some key concepts about what do we mean by homeschooling, we would like to start with a book that can tell us more about why someone would want to consider homeschool their sons, daughters and themselves too! The book is called 'Deschooling Society' by Ivan Illich. According to Wikipedia, Ivan "criticizes modern society's institutional approach to education, an approach that constrains learning to narrow situations in a fairly short period of the human lifespan."

We will have a comment on some of the passages of the book and reflect what does it mean for our education and our future as students and teachers.

We plan to have an hour for the book passages and one hour for the questions and discussion. We will try to administer the time so everybody can have a saying. Let's learn together!
