Few big-screen dementia tales wrench the heart like Lance Hammer’s (Ballast, 35th) long-awaited second feature. Family life turns to turmoil when single mother Amanda walks in on her mum, beset with advanced cognitive decline, in mid-coitus. Amanda calls the cops on her stepdad, citing her mother’s inability to give sexual consent, but questions of ethics and care spike in a storm of legal and social-service affairs.
