Welcome to Glocal Mahjong! 🀄 We are a mahjong thematic brand located in the creative hearts of Hong Kong—PMQ and Central Market in Soho. More than just a brand, we are a growing community dedicated to bringing people together through the fun of mahjong.
Whether you are looking at a Mahjong tile for the first time or you’re a casual player looking for a regular group to practice with, we've got you covered. Our mission is to keep this traditional game alive in a modern, "glocal" setting where everyone is welcome.
Our group revolves around two core experiences designed to take you from a curious observer to a confident player:
- Mahjong 101: Cantonese Mahjong Basics
This is our signature workshop for absolute beginners. You will learn the soul of the game: the most classic Cantonese mahjong played by Hong Kong households for generations. We cover tile recognition, winning hands, and essential table etiquette. - Mahjong Practice & Social Nights
The best way to improve is to play! These sessions are for social players who want to sharpen their strategy in a relaxed, low-pressure environment. It’s a "brain gym" and a social mixer all in one—the perfect way to meet fellow enthusiasts in the heart of the city.
Who Should Join?
Total Beginners: People who have zero experience but love board games and culture.
Casual Players: Those who know the rules but don't have enough people for a 4-person table.
Social Seekers: Anyone looking for a fun, offline way to connect with new people.

We’ll guide you through the strategy, skill, and "bit of luck" required to master Cantonese Mahjong—the most classic version played in Hong Kong households. You'll also get to experience the convenience of playing on an electronic mahjong table that handles the shuffling for you. It is always a crowd's favourite seeing the tiles got pushed up from the table!
What You Will Learn:
- Tile Recognition: Decoding the Bamboos, Characters, Dots, and Honors.
- The Win: How to build a winning hand (Pongs, Chows, and Eyes).
- Table Etiquette: The "Do’s and Don'ts" of a Hong Kong mahjong table.
- Scoring Basics: Understanding how points are calculated.
Beyond the rules, you’ll gain insight into the strategies that make this game a global obsession and a cornerstone of local HK life.
Class Details:
- ⏳ Duration: 2 hours
- 👥 Small Groups: 2 to 4 participants per session.
- 🗣️ Languages: Instructor is fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
- 🎂 Age: 18 or above (6 or above if join as a private family session)
