Now that the weather is getting cooler, Sacred Spaces can stretch it's legs a bit and do some hiking in the New Territories. This time we'll visit the Sheung Yiu Folk Museum / 上窰民俗文物館. The SYFM is maintained by the Heritage Museum and is one of thier satellite museums dedicated to Hong Kong life outside the urban areas. Originally built by a Hakka family (surname WONG), it is a time machine of the lifestyle people lived in previous eras. Sacred Spaces has been warmly welcomed and will have an attendant on-hand to discuss the museum and any questions that we have.

Afterwards I propose that we walk a little farther down the Pak Tam Chung Nature Trail to the Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows Chapel / 聖母七苦小堂 just a few minutes walk away. One of the several small Catholic Churches built in 1900 by missionaries to minister to the local Hakka community.

Let's combine exploration with a little exercise and enjoy this trip to the great outdoors.

There are many, many ways to get to Sai Kung. Everyone seems to have a favorite so I'm not going to go into details which way you should go. Since I'm coming from Hong Kong Island I take the MTR to Hang Hau MTR followed by Green Minibus 101M to Sai Kung Bus Terminal.

We'll gather at Sai Kung Bus Terminal near the Sai Kung Public Toilets (Glamorous, I know) and then depart on the KMB 94 Bus to proceed to the Sheung Yiu Bus Stop. Finally, we'll have a 15-20 minute walk on the Pak Tam Chung Nature Trail.
