East Kowloon Walk including Ngau Chi Wan / 牛池灣 and Former RAF Barracks

Details

Earlier this year Sacred Spaces sent out a small survey asking you all a few basic questions. One of the "lessons learned" from that exercise was that we were woefully neglecting Kowloon. Since then we've spent a lot of time planning so we can correct this error and (hopefully) illuminate all its nooks and crannies in Kowloon.

The first of these events is a walk through Ngau Chi Wan / 牛池灣 with stops at the former RAF Kai Tak Station Barracks and walking down into what is now Kowloon Bay. Ngau Chi Wan / 牛池灣 was once part of the formidable Shap Sam Heung 十三鄉 or Thirteen (Village) Alliance created after the Second World War from the remnants of the many farming and fishing villages along the Kowloon Flatlands. It has since faced the ravages of time and urban development but it can help appreciate what things were like not that long ago in Kowloon.

There are several items on the itinerary but the highlights are as follows:

1/ The remains of Ngau Chi Wan Village including temples and other important structures.
2/ The remains of The St. Joseph Home of the Elderly / 聖若瑟安老院 (limited access) also containing structures associated with the Sun Yat-Sen's / 孫中山 Family.
3/ Sam Shan Kwok Wong Temple 三山國王廟.
4/ Tour of Former RAF Kai Tak Station Barracks now Hong Kong Baptist University Academy for the Arts
5/ FINAL STOP at Goldin Financial Global Centre to see a Ju Ming Tai Chi Sculpture and "Four Faces of Serenity" a Thai inspired Bhrama Shrine.

Why not begin a journey with Hong Kong Sacred Spaces to explore Kowloon. Please note the order of these stops will vary depending on walking conditions and group size.
