At 6am this morning, a man’s body was found on the quiet island of Dalbrae off the west coast of Scotland. His body was torn to pieces as if by a wild animal attack. But there are no large predators on the island. You are journalists from a local TV channel sent out to report on the incident and to try and figure out what has happened. What angle will you take? Was it murder? Some kind of accident? Wait…Why is there an alpaca here?

Stories to Astonish the World
A pointcrawl RPG inspired by Chinese landscape painting and literary compilations of weird supernatural events that happen to hapless travellers. For reasons known only to yourself, you have chosen to leave the relative safety of a town to traverse the river valleys and mountains along the Great River. The road is perilous and uncanny, and so you have (begrudgingly or not) banded together with a group of fellow travelers. What will you find along your journey and will your destination be what you expect?

Sirens and Shouts
Normal people don't run into burning buildings. Normal people don’t wonder if it’s today they’ll get burnt. Normal people don’t worry about a lungfull of ash that leaves them rasping for breath. They don't pull friends out of wrecked cars at 4am on an icey Thursday morning. They don’t climb dozens of metres high without a harness. They don’t find the grandmother left behind. They don’t test every door they open for the danger behind it. Firefighters do, and it is they that pay the price for our safety. This is a story of that cost, the waiting, and what happens when the bell sounds. This is a playtest of a game in progress that is Powered by the Apocalypse.

You can drop in and play at any One-Shot Saturday – you do not need to have played in a previous session or commit to playing again. Whether you've played an RPG before or not, you're welcome to join us.

Please arrive on time as once the games begin it becomes difficult to properly introduce latecomers.

WHAT IS A TABLETOP RPG?

It's a game in which you never know where the next stop will be, because it’s all down to the decisions you and your fellow players make. Usually one person is the Game Master (or "GM"). Everyone else will be players, taking the role of the characters in the game. The players get to say what their characters say, think, and do. The GM describes everything else in the world.

Then... we play to find out what happens. The game is a conversation: I say something, then you reply, maybe someone else chimes in. We talk about what's happening to the characters we imagine and the world around them. We also talk about the rules, which help us decide what happens next if the next step is in doubt. The rules differ from game to game: some use dice to shape the story, others use cards or something else. It's always a conversation, though.
