What we’re about
If you’ve been in book clubs you know how stressful and maddening they can be. People don’t read. Or they don’t read well. Or you hurry to get the reading done and don’t get to enjoy the book. Or someone always picks that super-long book about the economic history of some country you’ve never heard of.
Silent book clubs take this bother away: just show up, say hi (or not!), have a drink (or not!), and read whatever you brought!
Reading alone, together.

We also have a monthly newsletter, which you can join by sending your email address to onebadscrivener@gmail.com.

See all- Honolulu Silent Book Club Audio Bookwalk at Kapiolani Parkkapiolani park band stand, Honolulu, HI
Happy summer!
We're meeting for an audio bookwalk.Meet at 6 at the bandstand, front and center. We'll say hi and take a voluntary group photo. IF THERE'S SOMETHING GOING ON AT THE BANDSTAND, MEET US BACK AND CENTER! BEHIND THE LAST ROW OF SEATS!
Around 6:15, we'll start walking as we each listen to whatever audio book we're listening to.
We'll finish at 7:15 and meet up again at the Barefoot Beach Cafe. Call it an evening, or stick around for a bite or something to drink!
We'll schedule the full hour for walking, and we'll start off together, but take things at your own pace and for your own duration. You're free to peel off any time and head back to meet us at the bandstand or Barefoot Cafe.
PLEASE NOTE (thanks, Aja!). Thursday is Juneteenth, and there will be activities in the park (close to Kaimana Beach, probably) at at the Shell.
We don't know how crowded the park will be or how easy it will be to find parking, but let's embrace the spirit of the day and maintain celebratory attitudes! If parking at the park is rough, try the zoo or the area around Monsarrat Ave. Remember, there are two lots on the Diamond Head side, near the rec building (if that's what it is). Street parking on Kapahulu in front of the zoo is free beginning at 6.Text Mitchell (that's me) at 830-255-7423 if you have questions, if you need directions, or if you'd like a ride home.
* There is no real reason you can't also just read an ebook or a physical book. During the lockdown, I walked around at a neighborhood park and read an ebook almost every night. You just have to take it slowly and carefully!
- Proof Readers Book Club at Proof Social ClubProof Social Club, Honolulu, HI
We are once again collaborating with Proof Social Club, a bar in Downtown Honolulu where Chaplain Lane meets Fort Street Mall, and with Pasta Boys, who'll be serving up some deliciousness to accompany our reading!
Proof says:
"Love books and good drinks? Proof Readers is the perfect spot to mingle with fellow readers, share recommendations, and chat about your latest literary finds. Whether you're looking to connect with fellow book-lovers or maybe even meet someone special, this monthly meetup is for you!"
We'll have a book exchange table! Bring a few, take a few, or whatever. No Rules. I'd rather you take your unclaimed books with you when you go, but if you leave them, I'll be happy to take them to the Little Free Library at Maikiki District Park.
Proof also has its own book shelf, so take a look for something good there, too!
Good drinks (including nice mocktails) and good, mellow vibes. The mood is as chill as it gets.
Pasta Boys will be there, (click link to see sample menu), so enjoy a nice plate of freshly made pasta to go with your book!
Message Mitchell (that's me) if you need info, if you would like a ride, if you get lost, or if you would like someone to walk you to and from your car or bus stop. 830-255-7423.
